Getting Around Belarus

Belarus has a well-developed transport infrastructure that allows travelers to move comfortably both between cities and within them.

After arriving in Minsk or another city, you can continue your journey using various types of transport:

  • railways connect major cities across the country;
  • buses and minibuses operate throughout Belarus;
  • in Minsk, the metro, trams, and buses are very convenient;
  • taxis and services such as Yandex Taxi / Yandex Go are available in major cities.

Railways

Railway routes connect major cities of Belarus — Minsk, Brest, Gomel, Vitebsk, Grodno, and others.

  • Intercity travel (for example, Minsk – Brest): prices depend on distance and train type. A standard ticket usually costs around €10–20. It is recommended to check exact prices before traveling.
  • Suburban and regional trains are generally cheaper and suitable for short routes.

Intercity Buses and Minibuses

Buses and route minibuses (“marshrutkas”) operate throughout the country:

  • Buses are a convenient way to travel from Minsk to other cities, as well as between regional centers and smaller towns.
  • Minibuses are small vans that are often faster and more convenient on short routes, though tickets may cost more.

Urban Transport

Buses, Trams, and Trolleybuses

Many cities in Belarus (Minsk, Brest, Vitebsk, Gomel, etc.) have a developed public transport network.

In Minsk, the following are available:

  • buses;
  • trolleybuses;

  • minibuses.

Public transport operates from early morning until late evening.

  • single ride — 0.90–1.00 BYN (~€0.35–0.40);
  • paying the driver may be slightly more expensive — about 1.00 BYN;
  • multi-ride and time-based travel passes are available.

Minsk Metro

Minsk is the only city in Belarus with a metro system. It consists of several lines and operates from early morning until midnight.

  • travel cards and passes are cost-effective for frequent use.

Taxis and On-Demand Services

Taxis are widely available in major cities of Belarus.

  • traditional taxis operate with meters or fixed fares;

Car Rental

Car rental is available in Belarus and is convenient for traveling around the regions. In large cities, public transport is usually sufficient.

Special express buses (such as AeroExpress) operate between Minsk National Airport (Minsk-2) and the city center.
